Cheeky Cherubs

Putting your waste to work...and play!

Our focus as educators is to expand experiences for children so they can think for themselves, look at things in interesting ways, be creative and not have to rely on the limited equipment that is so often put in front of them.

Our proposal is to see non-toxic waste materials as resources in order to reduce costs. These materials are reclaimed materials such as unsold stock, rejects or discarded materials from industries or handicraft production.

Materials we can use include the following:

  • Paper - white, coloured, tissue, waxed, newsprint
  • Cardboard - white, coloured, corrugated
  • Cord - thread, twine etc
  • Leather - upholstery cut offs
  • Fabric - upholstery, clothes, cloths, lining, felt, thread
  • Rubber
  • Piping
  • Cones - electrical wire coils, thread
  • Buttons - from old clothes
  • Containers - food, take away

We have made butterflies from water bottles and piping, a tree from the inserts that carpet is wrapped in and old newspapers, a robot out of old containers and boxes. There are endless possibilities for the materials that we can use.

We are members of a group of organisations interested in turning waste into resources. Accordingly, we would hope to make these materials open to a number of different groups such as:

Early years centres - crèches & pre-schools
Community centres
National schools
Secondary schools
Youth groups/clubs - scouts, girl guides, Youthreach projects
Senior citizens centres
Special Needs schools/groups
Sheltered workshops
Hospitals
Festivals
Theatre groups
Victim Support groups

Third level colleges - Crawford Art College, St Johns College, Tramore Rd., College of Commerce
